cleaning
Pellets on the bedding should be gently removed daily with a hand brush. This is done very quickly and the animals immediately have a cleaner environment. The 'feel test' (eg with a paper towel) shows whether the surface of the light bed is still nice and dry. Depending on how dirty the mat is, it can simply be replaced with a new one and machine washed at 60°.
tips
The flannel tends to shrink a little after the first wash. This is not a problem because the amount of flannel takes this into account. The extra amount of flannel means that the fleece and flannel fit perfectly into the cage even after washing.
Pull the mat back into shape after washing.
